The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2019 election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has given the assurance of victory, saying he and the party could not afford to fail Nigerians.

Atiku made the pledge on Sunday shortly after he was declared the party’s candidate at the national convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“We cannot afford to fail Nigerians at this very moment,” he said.

Stressing that he could not do it alone, the presidential candidate said he was ready to work with everybody to achieve the desired goal, particularly all those who contested for the presidential ticket with him.

“I am ever ready to work with each and everyone of them for the realisation of the victory of our party in the forthcoming elections.

“I cannot do it alone,” he said.

Atiku expressed gratitude to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for the opportunity to serve under him.

According to him, the tutelage he went through under Obasanjo gave him the opportunity to be elected the presidential candidate.

He also paid tribute to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

He paid tribute to the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, too.

He pledged not to disappoint the party in the bid to return it to power in 2019.

Atiku defeated 11 other contestant to clinch the PDP ticket.

He polled 1,532 while his closest opponent, Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, polled 693.
