No fewer than 10 people died in a road traffic crash along the Jos–Bauchi road in Plateau in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, confirmed the incident through its Plateau Command Public Education Officer, Mr Peter Longsan, in a statement in Jos.
Longsan said the crash occurred at about 12:12 a.m. after a military checkpoint along the Jos–Bauchi road.
“In the early hours of today, we received a distress call following a road traffic crash along the Jos–Bauchi road.
“The crash involved four vehicles, two trailers and two minibuses, with 19 people involved, including 17 males and two females,” Longsan said.
He said 10 men died on the spot, while the injured victims were receiving treatment at Jos University Teaching Hospital.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that speed and reckless driving caused the crash, while further investigation is ongoing,” Longsan said.
He urged motorists to avoid reckless driving and obey traffic regulations, especially during the Yuletide season.
